Thuja plicata

I fell in love with the Western Redcedar (WR) while living in Humboldt County. Dendrology turned out to be one of my favorite classes at the University. Only wish I could remember everything I learned. The HSU campus had one WR specimen that wasn’t doing well, but I remember admiring its beauty, despite its condition.

Besides being lovely to look at AND a fantastic lumber product, the WR is the Provincial tree of British Columbia (shout out to dray!), and I can’t help but love its scientific name. For some reason, I feel worry-free when I say it! Anyone else?

So, that’s why I chose “redcedar”as my blog id. I like to keep perspective on life. Remember that this life is all about giving glory to God. Remember that this life is temporary! Remember that we don’t need to worry about SUCCESS; the focus should be on SIGNIFICANCE. And I have a fantastic “how to” book to recommend.

I hope you’ll stop by regularly and comment often!
